Lichens occur in some of the most extreme environments on Earth— arctic tundra , hot deserts , rocky coasts, and toxic slag heaps . However, they are also abundant as epiphytes on leaves and branches in rain forests and temperate woodland , on bare rock, including walls and gravestones, and on exposed soil surfaces (e.g., Collema ) in otherwise mesic habitats .

This poem emerged as a flirtation that hasn't gotten out of control. I have learned in the past twenty + years the value of loving friends. A friend who is a lover is to often denied and becomes neither in time. I Made a Friend Today. We acted garish, strange and gay. What was on our minds, so foolishly sublime? I can't tell you! What I do know is this: I want to share those feelings grand again. Invite my soul, sins and all. Let's make company, no need to call. We'll jiggle, juggle, giggle and cry, Share stories, lips and lies. And always be friends as the crow flies. St. Petersburg Florida 1999

ALL THE THINGS WE WERE WE ARE SO LITTLE DOES TIME CHANGE TO MAKE US INTO WHAT WE'RE NOT OH GOD! REARRANGE St. Petersburg Junior College, St. Petersburg Florida 1964

A young airman stands in his unit quadrangle while in charge of quarters and stares in awe at the early evening sky. Was what he was about to see a warning or a gift? The spectacular display of light inspired this next poem. Yellow hues of crisp green lightening Crackling past the moon. Life is not a storm nor wonder But an instant doomed. Keesler Air Force Base 1965 Biloxi, Mississippi
