Santahood

Image
As a student teacher, I met children who had very little.  Of course, there were those who had a sufficient life.  That made an impression on me and it prompted this poem.  Values are created in part by what we have and don't have. Santa Claus makes all children happy, the ones who have and those who have not - at least in this poem.  After two years of satisfactory coursework, the University of South Florida denied my diploma, this poem is not the only idea they disagreed with.  Education is a bureaucracy whose aim is to socialize your child.  As one teacher told me, "teaching is the tip of the iceberg."   SANTAHOOD IS COMING TO TOWN a strange and wondrous tale by charles mistretta 93'  Christmas ornament - JoAnn   ONCE UPON A MIDNIGHT DREARY, I GRABBED MY BAG IN SUCH A FURY, WANTING TO PLEASE LITTLE GIRLS AND BOYS. THOSE REINDEER GROANED AND MUSED WITH RANCOR, THEN NEVER WAS HEARD SUCH SNORTS OF BANTER, QUIVE

A meteor fell from the sky and was reduced in mass as it burned it's way through the earth's atmosphere The result was this three centimeter remnant of a large menacing rock  If you find this hard to believe then the other version of the story simply is that it went up in smoke and those that experienced the event were amazed beyond comprehension   See the disclaimer at the top of this blog   An aside  Have fun while ye may

Science works together

The cure is not a panacea   It fights disease not infection   We still need awareness that what kills can continue, to whatever degree, even when contained with inoculations   Ed Yong who is a staff writer at The Atlantic describes the history of the virus and the reasons for the success and failure we have experienced since its genome was discovered in January of 2020 "Health-care workers became better at saving hospitalized patients more through improvements in basic medical care than through pharmaceutical panaceas—a predictable outcome, because antiviral drugs tend to offer only modest benefits." "A few large trials eventually confirmed that hydroxychloroquine does nothing for COVID‑19 patients, but not before hundreds of thousands of people were recruited into pointlessly small studies." "The tsunami of rushed but dubious work made life harder for actual experts, who struggled to sift the signal from the noise."

Transition

No two of anything or anyone can occupy the same place at the same time.  Territory is always earned through force or desperation.  Eventually we gain what we seek and live with what we replace.

Karabakh challenges Russian authority

"Fueled by the pandemic, uprisings in Belarus and Kyrgyzstan and a war in the Caucasus region are undermining the influence of the Russian leader." Putin's efforts to weaken the West has turned into a mirror of lost public confidence  All in the area  reason the Corona Virus is one of the causes of the destabilization  It is increasingly more difficult for autocrats to rule by division without becoming the target of lost popular confidence - the one man show of national dominance remains difficult to maintain with today's complex survival choices  Source  nytimes.com   By Anton Troianovski  Published Oct. 7, 2020 Updated Oct. 9, 2020
