Santahood

Image
As a student teacher, I met children who had very little.  Of course, there were those who had a sufficient life.  That made an impression on me and it prompted this poem.  Values are created in part by what we have and don't have. Santa Claus makes all children happy, the ones who have and those who have not - at least in this poem.  After two years of satisfactory coursework, the University of South Florida denied my diploma, this poem is not the only idea they disagreed with.  Education is a bureaucracy whose aim is to socialize your child.  As one teacher told me, "teaching is the tip of the iceberg."   SANTAHOOD IS COMING TO TOWN a strange and wondrous tale by charles mistretta 93'  Christmas ornament - JoAnn   ONCE UPON A MIDNIGHT DREARY, I GRABBED MY BAG IN SUCH A FURY, WANTING TO PLEASE LITTLE GIRLS AND BOYS. A meteor fell from the sky and was reduced in mass as it burned it's way through the earth's atmosphere The result was this three centimeter remnant of a large menacing rock  If you find this hard to believe then the other version of the story simply is that it went up in smoke and those that experienced the event were amazed beyond comprehension   See the disclaimer at the top of this blog   An aside  Have fun while ye may

Science works together

The cure is not a panacea   It fights disease not infection   We still need awareness that what kills can continue, to whatever degree, even when contained with inoculations   Ed Yong who is a staff writer at The Atlantic describes the history of the virus and the reasons for the success and failure we have experienced since its genome was discovered in January of 2020 "Health-care workers became better at saving hospitalized patients more through improvements in basic medical care than through pharmaceutical panaceas—a predictable outcome, because antiviral drugs tend to offer only modest benefits." "A few large trials eventually confirmed that hydroxychloroquine does nothing for COVID‑19 patients, but not before hundreds of thousands of people were recruited into pointlessly small studies." "The tsunami of rushed but dubious work made life harder for actual experts, who struggled to sift the signal from the noise."

Transition

No two of anything or anyone can occupy the same place at the same time.  Territory is always earned through force or desperation.  Eventually we gain what we seek and live with what we replace.

Change is not a choice

Image
The pandemic that has plagued out country and many more across the globe will not be under reasonable control for several more years. Implementation of standard safety processes remains an opinion. Poorer countries will continue to suffer and keep the virus alive through no fault of their own,. The promise of antigens that trigger an immune response are not presently trusted. Extracting political opinion from a lethal social killer is what will encourage a healthy world population, and again not all at once. A major social agreement is the a birth of a common positive active belief that can cure the body and the mind. Becoming one minded in this respect is not a choice, it is essential. Outside is a painting by Bob Orsillo which was uploaded on February 9th, 2019.

A reminder

Image
Art is life For today's youth a cruel reality exits that removes the fire from souls that once filled with joy and cheer. Staying in and away is concentrating humanity in a place that is safe but stifling.  About one percent perish, many are ill and some will never understand the reason for social restraint. History repeats itself in subtle ways equally harsh circumstances.  The humanities give us a reason to endure.  Historically other's have survived and so will we.    source  aeon.com

"As the FBI director, Christopher Wray, told Congress in February, “racially and ethnically motivated violent extremists” have become the “primary source of ideologically motivated lethal incidents” in the US. The danger overshadowed the jihadist threat that has dominated the security debate since 9/11."   Addendum:  This post does not diminish the seriousness of an internal dangerous struggle.  The captions show that anyone at any time can be the cause for suspicion of violence.     Quote from theguardian.com
