Putin's Bluff

Image
" Only one person knows whether the Ukraine crisis will lead to war, the man who started it: Vladimir Putin. But so far the Biden administration has reacted to Putin’s military escalation intelligently, with an appropriate mix of deterrence and diplomacy. It has rallied European countries to stay together, provided more weapons to Ukraine and put some troops on heightened alert to signal greater resolve. It has also publicized the kinds of hybrid warfare Russia is engaging in and signaled the sanctions that Russia would face if it went ahead with an invasion." Checking for weaknesses amongst the west Putin puts everything on the border line.  What will he take back with him when and if he retreats?  Knowledge that there is unity in Europe and abroad?  A perceived weakness becomes a strength for countries that border Russia.  A lesson for another potential aggressor  Xi Jinping 主席   Source By Fareed Zakaria washingtonpost.com

Where are the sanctions

Image
Where are the sanctions against Russia promised by the Western allies   “We’re grateful to the United States for its constant support of our sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Zelensky said . “But I am the Ukrainian president. I’m located here. I know … deeper details than any president.”   Russia's leader is waging a war of fear   His undelivered intentions are meant to cause psychological fear and confusion      Putin is allowing time for a full scale conflict that he believes he can easily win   He has no real advantage because no one knows for sure how the outcome will unfold  The longer he waits the greater will be the impact of the consequences Should he lose this contest of wills his loss will be almost impossible to recover from  No one wants war   Putin puts many in harms way to satisfy his will and a vision to regain sovereignty of the Ukraine

You can't rely on inspiration

"Essential Writing Advice from J.G. Ballard "  Having lived on this planet for a lifetime I can't imagine what hell would be like. (me) Cultivate ambiguity.  “[O]ne’s become used to these overlong novels in which everything is explained and tidied up. At the heart of every good short story lies a certain ambiguity, a sort of ‘Yes, but.’ That’s very seldom found in novels. And yet this ambiguity is the very stuff of life.”   source    Literary Hub     Emily Temple

Slaves of time

Image
" "2045: The Year Man Becomes Immortal" was an article published in Time Magazine in 2011 by Lev Grossman. The article features Ray Kurzweil, Director of Engineering at Google Inc., who describes how we are approaching a moment when computers will become intelligent, and not just intelligent but more intelligent than humans. When that happens, humanity - our bodies, our minds, our civilization - will be completely and irreversibly transformed"    " Slaves of Time , recorded in collaboration with soprano Rebecca Nelsen and rapper Olly Hodding, reflects on the fleeting nature of life, about the idea of having limited time on earth to achieve our dreams. It's about living life as if it every day was our last."   While mortals grumble Race place to place I suspend in stationary space. Unseen unheard observant though The dull long snake where does it go? Below the roar is but a din It satisfies all within Those tiny cans that rush nowhere And never end without a care.

Is this a gun

Image
A list of hand gun manufacturers How hand guns work This blog does not encourage the use or ownership of hand guns without a legal purpose.  My weapon training was by the military, and target shooting for sport.  When I left the service I sold my Rugger target pistol.  It was replaced by BB guns, mechanical and CO2 powered.  Neither one of these guns can kill.  They feel and look like the real thing which satisfies my need to fire a weapon.  The gun in the picture above is a water pistol.  If you own a parrot it may be a gentle necessity.  If you still have the desire to kill something buy a computer game.  As you know, guns don't kill people, people kill people.   Source:  https://www.genitron.com/

1 If you buy something from a charity shop, pay double. 2 Carry stress balls to squeeze when you feel under pressure. 3 Use your umbrella with manners. 4 Buy your electricity from a supplier who uses only sustainable resources. 5 Give your Lottery money to a good cause (only 28p of every £1 you spend goes to charity). 6 Pay compliments. 7 Switch off your mobile phone before going into the cinema or theatre. 8 Tell someone their label’s sticking out. Especially if you don’t know them. 9 Stop yourself saying ‘I’. 10 Bring birds into your life; get a bird-table, and make sure your cat has a bell around its neck. 11 Join a union. 12 Volunteer. Try www.idealist.org for ideas. 13 Make your own compost. Vegetable peelings, leftovers, garden waste, tea bags all do it. 14 If you’re buying a car, consider the new breed of zero-emission vehicles. 15 Put a brick in your toilet’s cistern to reduce the amount of water used in flushing. 16 Give your old computer to someone who can us
