Who fights in a war

Will war by a country with a weak economy benefit from carnage other than to earn disgust from Europe and the West  Uncertainty is not this issue  Putin is showing his insecure hand, a last stand at expansion for Russia to guarantee it's territorial position by suppressing NATO and creating alignment with a dictatorial country who could abandon him should he fail
