I look forward to the day when electric or similar powered aircraft will replace carbon burning fueled aircraft. With the technology I have experienced with drones public transportation should be safer.  Electric motors can correct for fluctuations in air flow around an aircraft.  If you have experienced wind shear (a change in wind speed or direction) while flying you can appreciate what advantages multiple engines with independent speeds and even pitch can offer for a safer aviation future.
